Dr. Chithra Lekha Palaikkavilagathil completed her Ph.D. in developing volatile organic sensors using hybrid organic-inorganic materials. After her doctroral research, she has six years of research experience in Indian Institute of Technology Madras and two years of teaching experience in Anna University and Pondicherry University. She was the winner of BioMedTech Innovation Challenge 2.0 conducted by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and AstraZeneca in October 2020. Now her start-up Team Bion is pre-incubated at HTIC, IIT Madras. She also won MEDIC Innovation Award 2019 by IIT Bombay for developing and presenting proof-of-concept of Tumor Margin Guiding. The award goes under Best Surgical Instrument – Impact category. Also she was the sole winner of prestigious MaterialNext contest conducted by Tata Steel and IITM E-Cell in May 2019 for developing a sweat based flexible biosensor for dehydration detection. She is a science diplomat, who represented India in BRICS Young Scientist Forum 2019. She actively participates in policy analysis and contributed in framing of policy documents. In VT India, she leads a team of researchers in solving the unmet problems of medtech industry. A centre for wearable biosensors and bioelectronics in VT India is being established under her leadership.
